Are You Joyful When You Face Trials?

I know I don’t always feel joyful when I’m facing trials.  In fact, I very rarely do.  When I’m facing trials I usually feel confused and frustrated. However, I try to always remind myself that God is in control and it will work out for my good. That’s hard to always remember though. I usually spend a lot of time trying to figure out what God wants me to learn.  I guess I can relax and be confident that I will learn it one way or another and I should not really worry too much about it.  I’ve asked God to show me the areas where I need to grow, and when you ask Him to do that…..he always does.  So, I know he is working on me and I will eventually learn whatever it is he wants me to learn. If I trust him and cooperate it will probably go a lot faster.  Not easier.  Just faster.

James 1:2-5 says “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him”

Based on this verse we should find joy in our trials because those are the times God is really working on us, and once we make it through the trial we will be better for it.  When we focus on where we will be on the other end of the trial that does make the trial seem better.  I am going to have to work on actually being joyful during trials, but when I read this verse it does help me see it much differently.  God is working on me and making me more like Him.  That is definitely something to be excited about.
